Mahj Dragon
Mahj Dragon is four-player mahjong for iPhone and iPad: nine games, each played by its own written rules, with three levels of computer opponent, all trained by us, and a teacher who explains her advice. It is the third app from OK By Us, after Buzzer Party and Boomjack.
Mahjong is played differently almost everywhere it is played. Mahj Dragon has nine of those games, from Shanghai about 1920 to Hong Kong, Taiwan, Chengdu, Tokyo, Singapore, Saigon and New York, and plays each one by its own rules, taken from written sources for that game: how a hand wins and how it scores.
Each game has three levels of computer opponent, all trained by us. At every table the Dragon, the app's teacher, will read your rack, suggest a throw and say why; a rules card is one tap away. The Learning Center starts from nothing, with two guided first hands, six drills, a glossary and fifty stories from the game's history, with the myths labelled as myths. The Tile Set Atlas visits the nine sets and the places they come from.
The American game uses the app's own card, the Dragon House Card: fifty hands written for Mahj Dragon. Friends in the same room can play together on their own iPhones and iPads, with the devices talking straight to each other: no internet, no accounts, nothing collected.
